Facility name: Solid State Gamma-ray irradiation facility
Name of the institute: Brookhaven National Laboratory
Machine type: Sealed 60Co source
Type, flux and energy of available particles:
1.17 and 1.33 MeV gamma, 5 x 103 Gray/hour to a
minimum of about 20 Gray/hour (attenuators can be used).
Dimensions allowed for the samples to irradiate:
High rate: 5 cm x 5 cm x 0.5 cm,
Low rate: 50 cm x 50 cm x 5cm.
Availability:
Cost for collaboration use is $400/working day for sole use of the facility
and can decrease to $200 working day if the source can be shared. The cost
for private companies is $800/working day. A working day is defined as 8
hours; however, the source can be used 24 hours/day for long irradiations.
Typically there is about 3 months/year that are totally uncommitted. For
shared use of the facility that time increases to about 10 months/year
depending on requirements.
