The Conference Site is located
in one of Florence’s most
prestigious area: the Arcetri hill, on the
southern side of Arno river, close to the centre of Florence. In Arcetri
is placed the Galileo's Villa, where from 1633, when he was officially
charged with heresy and forced to renounce the Copernican system, he lived
until his death in 1642.
How to reach the Conference Site

From the Motorway A1 turn to the Firenze Certosa exit. Follow the signs in the direction of "CENTRO" (Firenze downtown) for about 3 Km, passing nearby the Certosa and through the Galluzzo town, along via Senese and then via del Gelsomino. You arrive at the crossroads marked by an arrow in the city map (it is the fourth traffic lights). Turn right along V.le del Poggio Imperiale and then left at the end. Proceed 200 m and you arrive in front of the main entrance gate (Largo E. Fermi). Follow the upgoing internal road until you find the first main building on the left-hand side.
Get off at Firenze S.Maria Novella railway station. There you can catch a taxi (about 15 minutes). Otherways, the bus number 36 or 37 (ATAF service) is available in Piazza della Stazione (on the left side getting out the station) to Porta Romana, where you can take the bus number 38 (every 40 min.) that drops you just in front of the main gate. Alternatively, you may catch the bus number 11 (every 10 min.) in Piazza S. Maria Novella (close to Piazza della Stazione) and get off at the crossroads marked by an arrow in the city map (GELSOMINO1 stop). Walk up V.le del Poggio Imperiale, turn left at the end and arrive at the main gate (about 10 min. walk). From the main gate to the Dipartimento di Astronomia e Scienza dello Spazio, you must walk uphill until you arrive at the first main building on the left-hand side.

Airports to get to Firenze are: Firenze A. Vespucci, Pisa G. Galilei, Bologna G. Marconi, Roma Fiumicino, Malpensa e Milano Linate.

From the airport you may catch a taxi to downtown (20 min.) or to the Arcetri site (30 min.). Alternatively, you can catch a bus shuttle ("VOLA IN BUS", ticket 6 €) in front of the ARRIVALS to the S. Maria Novella railway station (20 min.) and follow the instructions given above.
One-hour trains from and to S. Maria Novella railway station connect the Pisa International Airport "Galileo Galilei" to Firenze (Timetable) .
